NO SCHOOL 10/6 & 10/7

HURRICANE MATTHEW STATUS – 10/5/16

Due to the progression of Hurricane Matthew, Duval County Public Schools is closing all schools and offices, and cancelling all after-school activities and extended day care on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7, 2016. In addition, all after-school activities are cancelled Wednesday. Extended day will continue until all children are picked up, but we do encourage parents to pick up their children as soon as possible after school. This decision is based on current storm projections for Duval County, which indicates the likelihood of both hurricane and tropical force rain, winds, and flooding beginning Thursday night and throughout Friday. In addition, key school sites will be made available and used for shelters as requested by the Duval County Emergency Operations Center. In order to inform parents and guardians, automated phone calls and emails will be sent out advising of the latest school cancellations, and necessary updates will be made to the district’s website at www.duvalschools.org, DCPS mobile app, Twitter (@DuvalSchools), and Facebook pages. Additionally, we will also continue to share information and updates with local media outlets. The safety of our students and community is of paramount importance, and we ask all residents to Stay Aware and Prepare by taking proper precautions during this severe weather system. We anticipate all normal school operations and activities will resume as scheduled on Monday, October 10, 2016. Makeup weather days will be announced at a later date. For more information regarding city services, storm updates, and shelters, visit www.jaxready.com, www.COJ.net or call 630-CITY (2489).

We GoNoodle, do you?

GoNoodle is an awesome program that we've been using at Chets Creek for going on 3 years now! We actually got recognition from the district for being the first school in county to use it in every classroom when it first came out.

In our classroom, we usually do a few GoNoodle activities to break up our morning inbetween subjects and sometimes in the afternoon when we need a brain break. The students love it! We get a chance to stretch and move around to many different interactive videos.

Today, we had our first transformation with our first GoNoodle avatar:
What a cool looking dude!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We were so caught up in making our coconut trees that we didn't get any pictures while making them.

Today, we read and sang along with the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Every student explored the letters in their name and make a coconut tree of their own.

Our coconut trees will be up outside our classroom on Friday. :)

Behavior Chart

Today, we started enforcing our classroom behavior chart. As the days go on, students are being taught the expectations of the classroom. Each day we review and practice our rules, rituals and routines. As clips moved up and down on our chart today, we were very happy with the growth students are showing as they learn how the classroom operates.

Please make sure to check your child's blue folder calendar and initial it daily. If the date square is "White" your child had a good day and performed as expected. Pink and purple marks are examples of going beyond expectations. A yellow mark is a warning. Blue or green marks represent behaviors that were not acceptable. A red mark is a possible referral and call home.

1st Day of Kindergarten

Through the tears and sad faces of drop off, we found fun on our first day of school.

We're not messing around, it was a rocky start for some friends but we found that several of our classmates truly are great shipmates as well. We have a class full of sweet students.

As we get to know our classroom rules and routines it will seem rough for the first few weeks but we promise the days will get easier.

Thank you, Mrs. Phillips for a fun first day assembly!
Several of our classmates were called on to roll the big dice and participate in the mini games.

We look forward to tomorrow's adventure. (Which includes finally checking out the playground 😆)

Happy Monday!

Reading Level Goals and Chapter Book Club

We had so much fun setting reading level goals today! Students are pushing themselves to read more and become better readers. They set goals to grow a reading level or 2 (some 5) by the end of the school year.

We also started a chapter book club for our friends that have grown so much this school year! It was great to see so many friends reading as they waited for dismissal today.
